Park View spikers sweep Windsor, Sussex

SoVaNow.com / October 04, 2017
The Park View volleyball team traveled to Windsor High School Sept. 26 where both the varsity and jayvee picked up the win.

The jayvees won their best-of-three match in straight sets, by scores of 25-14 and 25-16. Park View was led by Deaona Watkins with 5 kills, Carson Wall with 3 kills and Erin Bailey with 8 assists.

The varsity also won in straight sets, 3-0. All three games were won by secure margins, 25-18, 25-16, 25-14.

Standout performers for Park View were Courtlyn Hawkins with 8 kills, 2 aces, 3 blocks; Katherine Mosier with 6 kills and 2 blocks; Ashley Roberts with 4 kills; and Lexy Sjurseth with 2 kills.

The rigorous fall volleyball schedule continued just two days later when the Sussex Lady Tigers came to South Hill for a best-of-five match against the Lady Dragons. Being back on their home court obviously agreed with Dragon girls as they were able to defeat Sussex in convincing fashion.

Not much went right for the Lady Tigers as they fell by scores of 25-4, 25-6 and 25-3. Top performers for Park View were Courtlyn Hawkins with 11 kills and 9 aces; Lexy Sjurseth with 3 kills and 8 aces; Katherine Mosier with 3 kills; Emma Jo Wolfe, Dee Dee Cliborne and Emily Lester with 2 kills each; Hannah Bailey with 7 assists and 3 aces; and Ashley Roberts, who had an outstanding night with 2 kills, 14 assists and 5 aces. The Dragon varsity is looking sharp and playing well as the season begins to wind down.

The girls were scheduled to kick off Homecoming week at Park View on Monday, with a match against the Halifax County High School. The Lady Dragons were set to travel to Surry County High School on Tuesday, and then they face off against Franklin County High School on Thursday, Oct. 5 at home.
