American Legion Post 8 junior baseball team started its season yesterday.

Post 8 was headed to Lynchburg to face Post 16 in a doubleheader at Heritage.

On Saturday, Post 8 is set to play a twinbill at Christiansburg.

Post 8 is the defending state champion.

The locals held a scrimmage Monday night against the Virginia Marlins travel team. Post 8 split the DH.

The locals enjoyed a 12-1 win in the opening game. The Marlins prevailed, 8-1, in the second game.

In its opening salvo, Post 8 scored eight runs in the first inning and added four in the third.

Blake Duffer, Joey Duffer and J.D. Powell had two hits apiece for Post 8 in the opening win in scrimmage action.

Post 8 had very solid pitching. Zack Lowery, Colt LaRue, Jared Dawson and Drew Harlow combined on a five-hitter. The pitchers combined for eight strikeouts.

Harlow had the lone RBI for Post 8 in the second game, as the locals were fielding errors en route to an 8-1 defeat.

Harlow, Nathan Comer and Luke Fulcher each had a hit in the game. Harlow delivered an RBI base hit in the third.
