PV girls finish second in New Kent showcase tournament / October 09, 2019
The Park View varsity spikers traveled to New Kent High School to participate in a six-team invitational tournament on Sept. 28. Teams participating included Park View, Southampton High, Colonial Heights High, Warwick High, Tabb High and host New Kent.

Park View won two and lost three on their way to a second-place finish. Cambra Graham and Courtlyn Hawkins were named to the All-Tournament first team but other team stats were unavailable at press time.

Scores were: Park View over New Kent 2-1, Park View over Warwick 3-0, Tabb over Park View 3-0, New Kent over Park View 3-0 and Tabb over Park View 2-0.

Spikers stay undefeated in district play

Park View remained undefeated in Tri-Rivers District play last week. The Lady Dragons, on the road for two contests, bested Franklin in straight sets on Tuesday and then beat the Lady Indians 3-1 at Southampton on Thursday.

On Tuesday Park View took the long ride up Rt. 58 to Franklin. The Dragons came away with a clean win in straight sets. The Dragons took game one 25-17, game two 25-7 and game three 25-21.

Courtlyn Hawkins, Deaona Watkins and Krislyn Johnson had four kills each and Carson Wall served up four aces.

On Thursday, Park View was on the road to Southampton. At Southampton the Lady Dragons won 3-1. The Lady Dragons won game one 25-16 but dropped their first regular season game, falling 25-23 in game two. Park View rallied and won game three 25-23 and game four 25-18.

Deaona Watkins paced Park View with 14 kills and pair of blocks followed by Cambra Graham with 9 kills, Courtlyn Hawkins with 6 kills and 3 blocks, Kaylee Coker with 6 kills and 2 blocks, Riley Grace Turner with 2 kills and a block, Carson Wall with 2 kills and 13 assists and Erin Bailey with 3 aces and 16 assists.

Park View, now 12-0, has one more road game to Sussex Central on Oct. 10 before returning to PVHS to host Surry County on Oct. 15.

Jayvees suffer first loss

The Little Lady Dragon jayvee volleyball team traveled to Southampton on Thursday and suffered their first defeat of the season.

The Lady Indian jayvee team defeated the Lady Dragons 16-25 in game one and 14-25 in game two.

Paige Springer put up 2 kills and 3 assists to lead Park View, followed by Asia Green with a pair of kills and Alex Love with 2 kills as well.

With the loss the Lady Dragon jayvees are now 6-1 and are scheduled to travel to Surry to face the Lady Dukes on October 15.
