Sea Serpents on top in four-way meet
SoVaNow.com / February 13, 2013The South Boston/Halifax County YMCA Sea Serpent swim team traveled to the Altavista Y to compete in a four-way meet on Saturday, Feb. 9.
South Boston Y won the meet with the Altavista Y finishing second, Allegheny finishing third, and Danville fourth.
“The Sea Serpents swam an awesome meet” said Coach Jeanette Abbott.
There were 89 individual swims with time improvements occurring in 56 of them.
Marya Dunning had the largest time drop of the Sea Serpents with a 18.79 second drop in her 100 free and a 10.02 second drop in her 50 back. Elizabeth McCurty had the second largest time improvement with a 16.48 second drop in her 50 free.
The following swimmers also had time improvements of over 10 seconds .Riley Anders had a 16.02 second drop in her 50 free and a 10.27 second drop in her 25 free. Blake Barger had a 11.77 second drop in his 50 back. Ashton Burton had a 10.33 second drop in his 100 free. Ethan Kirkhart had a 13.59 second drop in his 100 free. The final swimmer to have over a 10 second drop in time was Helin Zhang with a 11.96 second drop in his 25 free.
There were nine Sea Serpent swimmers who showed time improvements in all three individual events they participated in. They are Riley Anders, Marya Dunning, Kaitlynn Evans, Maddie Freshour, Maci Henderson, Caroline Midkiff, Michael Neller, Nick Rosche, and Helin Zhang.
There were also two Sea Serpent swimmers who won all three of their individual events. They were Andrew Abbott and Karson Evans. Ten Sea Serpent swimmers either won or finished in the top 3 in each of their individual events. They were Nicholas Carey, Shea Carey, Kaitlynn Evans, Michael Neller, Andrew Parikh, Joshua Roberts, Talley Roberts, Nick Rosche, Emma Smiley, and Joe Smiley.
The Sea Serpents will travel to Eden, N.C. on Saturday, February 16 to participate in the Winter Fling Invitational.
This will be their last swim meet before the PYSA Championships that will be held in Bedford on March 1 - 3.
