Season ends for HCMS boys soccer

SoVaNow.com / April 30, 2018
The season for Halifax County Middle School boys soccer has ended.

Halifax finished 6-4-3 after a tough loss in the Junior Piedmont District tournament semifinals. Laurel Park advanced, after defeating the Lions on penalty kicks. The game was deadlocked 1-1 at the end of overtime.

Wyatt Nelson scored the lone goal for the Lions. Osiris Ross collected seven saves and Halifax had a great defensive effort.

Halifax had a few shots on goal and three corner kicks.

Halifax led 1-0 until LP scored with 1:25 left in the second half. The teams battled into OT, and then Laurel Park sealed the issue. LP connected on four of five penalty kicks, while Halifax made three of five.

Lion coach Kwame Lambert said, “I’m very proud of how this season went and so should the boys. The 2018 season was a season of first! Tonight against Laurel Park was the best game we played all year. The defense tonight played great and that’s exactly how I wanted them to play.

“The message I told the boys was not to hang their heads and this was only the beginning. We’re heading in the right direction and the boys starting to believe that as well. Next year this will not be new to us as we will be expected to enter the district tournament and make another strong push towards the championship,” said Lambert.
