Season ends prematurely for Dragon volleyball girls

South Boston News
SoVaNow.com / November 10, 2021
After earning a bye in the opening round of the 2021 VHSL Region 3A volleyball tournament, Park View hosted York High School last Wednesday and despite a valiant effort came up short as the Lady Falcons took the 3-0 match win.

Game one was the most competitive of the three. Park View hung close to the Falcon girls, trailing by just two points at 19-17, but then York went on a 6-3 run to take the win.

Game two was a bit of a mess for the Dragon girls as they couldn’t seem to get anything to go their way. Park View trailed 10-5 and soon the Lady Falcons put the Lady Dragons in a deep hole at 16-8.

PV only managed two more points as the high-flying Falcons put the pedal to the metal and won 25-10.

Game three saw a bit of a resurgence for the Lady Dragons and they fought to an early 8-all tie. The Lady Falcons then put their best server at the service line and reeled off 12 straight points for a 19-8 lead. Park View couldn’t recover and York took the third game, 27-17, for the sweep.

The loss ended the season for the Lady Dragons and will likely be the last high school volleyball played in the Park View gym with the merger of Park View and Bluestone set to take place next year.
