Soccer region action begins / May 21, 2018
Halifax County High School girls’ soccer action now begins regional action here Wednesday.

The girls, 8-8, will host William Fleming.

Halifax earned the no. 3 seed in the south bracket, while Fleming is the no. 6 entry.

Comet coach Sid Young will try to work around some recent injury issues.

The Comet preparation starts today. Halifax is not taking Fleming lightly.

This is an elimination game. Beyond Fleming, Halifax would continue in the south region until the regional finals.

The south bracket in 18 region play includes Harrisonburg, Orange, no. 3 Halifax and no. 6 Fleming. Albemarle has the no. 1 seed and PH-Roanoke is the 2 seed.

The north side of 18 region play includes Brooke Point, Potomac, North Stafford and Stafford. Mountain View is the top seed and Massaponax is #2 seed.

Region semifinals are Tuesday, and the finals are Thursday. State action begins June 4 or 5.

Halifax varsity girls’ soccer dropped a consolation game in Piedmont district action last Wednesday.

The Comets fell at Bassett last Wednesday, 5-0. The game action was delayed and Halifax ended up playing one half.

BOYS UPDATE: The Comet boys are the five seed in the south bracket, and travel to William Fleming Wednesday.

PH-Roanoke and Orange meet Wednesday. Albemarle has the top seed in the south bracket, with Harrisonburg the 2 seed.

The North bracket includes no. 1 seed Mountain View, no. 2 seed Potomac, and four other teams, Brooke Point, North Stafford, Massaponax and Stafford.

Semifinals action for boys’ soccer is set for May 29, and the regional finals are May 31.
