Softball begins regional play

SoVaNow.com / May 27, 2013
Halifax County High School softball starts the regional postseason tournament today with an elimination game at 3 p.m. against Battlefield. The game will be held at the Comet softball field.

The winner moves on to regional semifinals action Wednesday. At this point, HCHS does not know its opponent, or the site of that game.

However, Halifax must get past a challenging opponent (Battlefield) first.

Battlefield defeated Woodbridge, 7-2, Thursday to set up the meeting with the Comets.

Battlefield is a no. 3 regional seed from the Cedar Run district.

Franklin County won its first-round regional game Thursday, defeating Mountain View. FCHS has to travel to play Osbourn Park Monday at 6 p.m.

HCHS is led by senior Meg Bane, who was selected last week to play in the Virginia High School coaches association all-star game in July.

Bane was named the top female athlete at HCHS this year.
