Softball has busy week ahead, dispatch Park View 13-8 / March 18, 2019
Halifax County High School varsity softball is busy this week, with three games in succession at home.

The Comets are 1-0, with border rival Person County coming Monday, followed by Tunstall Tuesday and Park View Wednesday.

Coach Woody Bane is pleased with the team after a quality opening night win over Park View Wednesday.

The Comet game against Dan River was postponed due to inclement weather. (The boys varsity baseball opener was also postponed.)

Halifax defeated Park View, 13-8, in non-district action last Wednesday in South Hill.

“We beat a really good Park View team on Wednesday. We hit the ball well and played good defense behind the pitching,” said Bane.

Halifax used three pitchers - Lauryn Chappell, Madison Barnes and Raegan Ridgeway.

Chappell got the win.

Park View erupted for six runs in its half of the first inning and added single runs in the second and seventh innings.

Halifax steadily rallied, starting with four runs in the second, four in the third, three in the fifth and two in the seventh.

Leadoff hitter Kaitlyn Richardson sparked the offense, getting two runs home on an error in the second, and providing an RBI single in the third.

Chappell, who started in the circle, also had a big night offensively. She lined a pair of two-run singles.

Katie Cole belted an RBI double in the seventh. Lynia Reed singled twice, doubled and scored three runs.

Karina Velazsquez walked and scored in the second and added an RBI sacrifice fly in the third.

Madison Barnes walked and later scored, and added a double in the seventh. She also scored in the frame.

Trinity Martin bunted twice and later scored, and also socked an RBI triple. Martin had four runs scored.
