Sports Hall of Fame seeks nominations
SoVaNow.com / January 10, 2013The Halifax County/South Boston Sports Hall of Fame will be celebrating its 25th anniversary on Saturday, April 6, at 6:30 p.m. at the Halifax County Middle School.
During the past 25 years 86 athletes have been inducted into the Hall of Fame and 67 outstanding high school seniors have bee awarded scholarships.
The Hall of Fame is currently accepting nominations for 2013 inductees to be installed at their annual banquet.
Those eligible to be nominated are those who:
(1.) Are natives of Halifax County or South Boston, whose achievement occurred while they are residing here or elsewhere, or
2. Are long-time residents of Halifax County or South Boston, whether natives or not, whose achievement occurred here or elsewhere, or
3. Are non-natives and non-permanent residents, whose contributions occurred in Halifax County?
4. Either has been retired from their field of sport for a minimum of five years, or who are at least 50 years of age.
A nominee must be nominated by a member of the Hall of Fame.
Membership applications and nomination forms are available from Addison Marable 572-3031 or by writing to the Hall of Fame, P. O. Box 12, South Boston, VA 24592.
Membership dues are $10 per year or $100 for a Lifetime Membership.
The deadline for nominations is Jan. 31.
