Student anglers battle elements to excel in Bass Nation tourney

SoVaNow.com / October 21, 2020

Cold and wet weather did not dampen the spirits of the members of the Mecklenburg High School Anglers who fished the Bass Nation of Virginia Youth Tournament at Buggs Island Lake Oct. 11.

Four teams performed well enough to qualify for the state tournament to held Nov. 7-8 at a location to be announced.

Two teams from the junior division that made the cut are Dannon Garber and Colton Wiles with boat captain J. Daniels and Jaxon Edwards and Case Jones with boat captain Jeff Edwards.

The Garber/Colton team finished in second place overall in the junior division and Edwards/Jones finished third overall.

In the high school division, Chase Moser and Matthew Funderburk with boat captain Clay Samples finished in fourth and Luke Luke Skelton and Hunter Rappole with boat captain Sam Porter finished fifth. Both teams performed well enough to make it to the state tournament.

Skelton and Rappole also weighed in with the largest fish of the tournament.
