The Bluestone Barons wrestling team visited Poquoson High School on Saturday, Feb. 3, for the VHSL Region 2-A Wrestling Championship. Junior grappler Dale Sturdifen Jr. led the Barons with a regional runner-up finish.

The win qualifies Sturdifen to compete in the VHSL 2-A State Championship to be held Friday and Saturday, Feb. 16-17 at the Salem Civic Center. Competition begins at 9:30 a.m.

The Barons, though young, displayed growth throughout the season and in the region competition landed seven wrestlers on the podium

The Barons had two sixth place finishes by freshmen Xavier Sturdifen and Jasmine Nunez. They also had fourth-place finishers: senior Michael Driggs, junior Shawn Jones and freshman D’Andre Alexander and Neil Clayton, Jr.

Each of the fourth place finishers qualify as state alternates.
