Trojan golfers claim tri-match against SMSC foes

SoVaNow.com / September 11, 2019

The Bluestone Middle School golf team remains one of the top teams in the Southside Middle School Conference, defeating Central and Park View middle schools last week at Briery Country Club.

Bluestone won the match carding a team score of 179. BMS bested second place Central (185) by six strokes. PV placed third posting a 237.

Trojan head coach David Allgood said the win over Central was especially satisfying for the Trojans. BMS had not defeated Central in over 10 years of competition.

Allgood said Central had won the last two district championships and have not lost a district match the last two years. “I am very proud of this team and the progress we are making."

BMS played some of its best golf to date with all four top golfers carding scores in the 40s.

“Tyler Driggs had his best round of his career with a 46,” said Allgood. “He had pars on three of the last four holes to help secure the win.”

Cameron Shriver shot a 40 to pace BMS and was the match medalist for the second straight week. Taylor Seamans’ 44 and Jackson Allgood’s 49 rounded out the top four for the Trojans.

Shriver, Seamans and Allgood have been among the top-four players on the Trojans team in every match played this season.

Allgood said he was also proud of Thomas Elliott who qualified for his first match and shot his lowest score ever with a 53.

Bluestone was scheduled to play Powhatan and Amelia on Monday. BMS defeated Powhatan two weeks ago with a score of 190-196 and will compete against Amelia for the first time this season.

Bluestone 179: Cameron Shriver 40, Taylor Seamans 44, Tyler Driggs 46, Jackson Allgood 49, Davis Bowen 50, Thomas Elliott 53.

Central 185: Allen 41, Francisco 43, Clark 50, Gibbs 51, Bagley 56, Bryant 51.

Park View 237: Cameron Lynch 50, Maddox Sasser 60, Elliott Love 63, Isaac Cranford 64, Griffen Bowen 70.
