Tryouts start for Bluestone football and volleyball holding tryouts

SoVaNow.com / July 24, 2019
Bluestone High School will hold tryouts for varsity and jayvee football and volleyball over the next two weeks.

Prospective football players should report on Aug. 1. Students should bring tennis shoes and cleats. All other equipment will be provided.

The football team will hold their first scrimmage on Aug. 16 when the Barons travel to Averett University to take on Chatham High School.

On Aug. 5 the volleyball program will conduct tryouts. Sportswear and tennis shoes are recommended.

The volleyball team opens regular season play on Aug. 27. The girls will travel to Victoria to take on Central Lunenburg.

Head football coach Harry John and Darlynn Oxendine, varsity girls volleyball coach, both say that students trying out for the teams must have updated VHSL physicals on file with the school prior to being able to participate in the tryouts.

Even if you haven’t played either sport before in an organized setting, the coaches encourage you to participate in the tryouts if you have a desire to play. For more information regarding physicals, tryout times, or any other sports related information, call Bluestone High School at 434-372- 5177.
