Varsity girls suffer frustrating 60-34 loss to Martinsville

The Halifax County High School varsity girls’ basketball team dropped to 8-8 with a frustrating 60-34 loss at Martinsville Tuesday.

Halifax played a competitive first half, but the Lady Bulldogs erupted in the final period, scoring 24 points.

Dezz Jones led the Bulldog girls with 19 points. Martinsville had good scoring balance and reached double figures in eight minutes three times.

Martinsville had 15 points in the first period, 14 in the third and 24 in the final eight minutes.

Halifax wilted in the second half, scoring just five points in the third and nine in the final period.

Halifax had four baskets in the third and final quarters.

Dee Dee Jeffress led the Comets with 15 points, while Ella Morrison scored seven.
