SoVaNow.com / November 08, 2021

Halifax County High School varsity volleyball fell to Western Albemarle, region’s top seed, 0-3 Thursday in the regional road game, ending the Comets’ season.

“We faced a tough defensive team last,” Comet coach Sunshine Martin said. “They did a good job of putting the ball into the open floor and as hard as we tried to make adjustments, they just kept finding the holes.”

The Comets had 44 digs in the match; Kylie Satterfield with 11. Tessy Henderson recorded three blocks, Shamya Hankins with one.

“Our girls put up a good fight,” Martin said. “Our setters did a good job of trying to mix it up as best as they could but we just couldn’t seem to get our offense flowing. “We played off of the block well and pulled up a lot of balls that wouldn’t normally be played.’

Sarah Watts Emma Payne and Jadyn Harlow joined for 12 assists. Trinity Martin had eight kills; Madison Barnes with two aces.

“I’m so very proud of this group,” Martin said. “They were fun to coach, fun to watch and grew so much this season as athletes.

“We finished our season 10-13 which is one of the best records I’ve known them to have in a while. I am really proud of the effort all the girls gave this season.”

Comet stats: Sarah Watts 1B, 7AS, 7D; Trinity Martin 8K, 1SA, 6D; Shamya Hankins 3K, 1B, 2D; Madison Barnes 2K, 2SA, 1AS, 8D; Arissa Conner 3D; Emma Payne 4AS, 5D; Jadyn Harlow 1AS, 2D; Tessy Henderson 3B, 2D; Kylie Satterfield 11D.
