The Virginia High School league decided to postpone the Class 5 state semifinals action until Thursday.

Halifax County High School will meet Mills Godwin in one state semifinal. Stafford, which recently downed the Comets in the regional final, will meet Hickory of Chesapeake in the other semifinal Thursday. Game times have not been announced. The games are set for the Richmond area.

The winners meet Friday for the Class 5 state title.

Halifax is 23-3 and has played well. The Comets pounded a good Stone Bridge team in Ashburn last week to advance from the state quarterfinals.

Everyone is delayed about a week because of the weather.

Comet assistant coach Shawn Torian said Saturday, “We’re going to keep our routine. We’re going to go and do what we’ve been doing all year in practice.”

Torian said Godwin will be really good. The competition in the State Class 5 final four is generally excellent.

Halifax has made no moves on deciding the starting assignment for Thursday.

Torian said the Comet lead pitchers, Drew Harlow and Alex Lowery “have been really good, keeping us in ball games. They’ve thrown strikes, they’ve kept the (opposition) off-balance, and they’ve minimized their pitches.”

The offense got a boost from the bottom of the lineup in the 11-0 win over Stone Bridge.
