Westwood edged the Halifax County Middle School boys’ basketball team, 53-50, in overtime Monday at the Lions’ gym.

The Tigers outscored Halifax, 7-3, in overtime.

The Lions outscored the Tigers, 13-6, in the first period. Halifax still led, 24-16, at the half. By the end of the third, the Lions led, 33-31. It got plenty tense from there and the visitors pulled out the win in the extra session.

Xavier Walters led the Tigers with 13 points, while Danny Dickerso and Nyeir Warner had 12 apiece.

Jasveon Morris and Nijay Ross had 12 points apiece for Halifax, while Zack Carter scored ten.

Westwood picked up its offensive intensity in the final period in regulation and beyond, scoring 22 points in that stretch. Dickerso had two threes in that stretch.
