Wrestlers win one of three in Wednesday matches

South Boston News / December 11, 2017
Halifax County High School wrestling prevailed in one of three Piedmont district matches held at the Comet gym Wednesday night.

The Comets downed Martinsville, 36-12; lost to GW-Danville, 52-10; and fell to Tunstall, 66-12.

“Some of the results from tonight weren’t quite what the seem when you just look at the numbers. We are dealing with injury and illness, as were some of the other teams as well. There were quite a few forfeits out there and people having to be shifted around in the lineup,” coach David Riddle said.

“Still we were pleased to get the mat time. At this point in the season you are looking to get them all on the mat as much as possible and get the experience in. These are also teams that we will be seeing for the entire year so we know what to expect next time we are out,” said Riddle.

“As a whole, we are a very young and inexperienced team. We had two key veterans out tonight which certainly hurt us as a team. We will use what we saw tonight and work on those mistakes as we move forward,” said Riddle.

Minjune Kim 1-1; Chaia Debow 1-2; Jonathan Thornhill 1-2; Ethan Martin 3-0; Preston McGhee 0-3; Tyler Hudson 3-0; Rahquez Ford 1-2; Jacob Abedeljalil 2-1;

Exhibition, Colin Saunders 1-0.
