Comets prepare to play four games in three weeks

Wrestlers win one, drop two in district match / December 18, 2017
Halifax County High School wrestling won one match in the second round of Piedmont District competition Wednesday, while dropping two matches.

The Comets are 2-4 in dual match action.

Halifax shaded Patrick County, 33-30. The Comets fell to Magna Vista, 42-30, and GW-Danville, 54-18.

“Coach (Jay) Cole and myself were much more pleased with our performance tonight than we were at last weeks quad at home. We were able to come within one match of defeating Magna Vista, Were able to pick up a close win against Patrick, and as a team we were much more competitive again GW than we were last week,” said coach David Riddle.

Ballou, Hudson, and Mabe all paced the team by going a combined 9-0.

“They are going to be counted on all season to do that and did not disappoint. Jonathan was able to pick up two big wins for us as well. His match against PC was a 6-5 decision and was enough to give us the win. We tell the team constantly that you have to wrestle for 6 minutes with no quit. Had he given up at the end we may be looking at leaving 0-3,” said Riddle.

“The other new wrestlers are growing as well. We saw a tremendous amount of improvement from the group as a whole,” said Riddle.

By weight class: 106 Minjune Kim 2-0; 106/113 Chaia DeBow 1-2; 126 Jonathan Thornhill 2-1; 132 Ethan Martin 0-3; 138 Shon Ballou 3-0; 145 Tyler Hudson 3-0; 152 Tyler Mabe 3-0; 285 Jacob Abedeljalil 0-1.
