Late runs give JV Comets a 3-1 win

Ryan Puryear earned the win on the mound and the HCHS JV baseball team produced timely late offense in a 3-1 win over border rival Person County Friday. Puryear worked four innings, striking out six. He walked two, allowed two hits and held Person scoreless. Dylan Sons finished up, pitching three innings. Sons fanned six, walking two. He allowed one hit and one earned run.

Girls fall to PH in tennis

The Halifax Comet Girls’ tennis team fell to Patrick Henry on Thursday night by a score of 1-8. The Comets struggled against the more experienced patriot’s team but looked good in a number of matches especially doubles which were closely contested. Brandi Winstead was the sole comet to post a win in a close match against Patrick Henry’s Kim Russell.

Lady Comets bounce back

Stephanie Clark made the difference with the bat and on the mound, and the Comet varsity softball team bounced back from a bitter loss on Friday afternoon. Clark outdueled Person County’s Brittany Shotwell, leading the Comets to a 1-0 win in a quality non-district matchup.

Comet boys down Tunstall

The HCHS boys’ varsity soccer team has a new burst of confidence following a 3-0 win over Tunstall Friday night. Just over a week ago, Tunstall downed the Comets, 4-0, but this was a different Comet team.

Girls soccer rebounds from tough FC loss

The HCHS’ girls varsity soccer team rebounded from a tough loss to Franklin County with back-to-back non-district wins. The Comets downed Tunstall, 2-0, in non-district action Friday. Halifax scored both goals in the first half and held off Tunstall, whose only losses this season have come to the Comets. HCHS improved to 7-2 overall, with a 1-2 Western Valley district mark.

Jayvees claw to 9-4 win

The HCHS jayvee baseball team shook off a mistake-prone loss to E.C. Glass and defeated Franklin County in district action here Thursday. The Comets put together consistent offense in the late innings over FCHS, clawing to a 9-4 win. HCHS had trailed 3-0 after making four errors in the first three innings, but managed a late comback to win.

Jayvee girls roll to win

The HCHS jayvee softball team rolled into the Easter break Friday with a 9-1 win over Person County, as part of a Comet doubleheader. HCHS took control early. The Comets scored twice in the first, three times in the second inning, once in the fourth and three runs in the fifth. Halifax also had 14 hits.
