LONG GETS LION JOB: W.J. Long is the new head boys’ basketball coach at Halifax County Middle School. Long confirmed Monday night that he is taking over for recently retired Mike Hailey. Justin Saunders is slated to be the assistant coach for the Lions. Long has been Hailey’s assistant for the past five seasons. Long said he had learned a great deal from the veteran coach. Long said he hopes to continue the tremendous success the Lions program has enjoyed.

Lions win conference tournament title

The HCMS Lions baseball team
The HCMS baseball team generated critical late offense and downed Powhatan, 7-4, to claim the Southside Conference title Thursday. HCMS got two runs in the fifth and three in the seventh to overtake Powhatan.

Lady Lions win softball crown

The HCMS Lady Lions softball team
The HCMS softball team claimed the Southside Conference title with a 7-0 win over Powhatan Thursday. Halifax got outstanding pitching, as Miyana Ross went the distance. She threw a two-hitter, with ten strikeouts. Ross walked one batter.

Lions advance to title game

The HCMS baseball team advanced to the championship game of the Southside Middle School tournament against Powhatan today. The Lions cruised past Central, 14-4, on Tuesday and travel to Powhatan today to settle the tournament title.

Lady Lions smash Bluestone

The HCHS softball team swept a doubleheader with Bluestone Monday, capping an outstanding 11-0 finish to the regular season. Coach James Smith has been the head coach for the Lion girls for 13 seasons, and Halifax has won the regular season crown each season in its division.
