Comets second in WVD golf

Halifax County’s golf team, a season removed from a Northwest Region tournament appearance, placed second Tuesday in the first of five 2010 Western Valley District regular-season golf matches. The contest was played at the par 71 Blue Hills Golf Club and hosted by William Fleming.

The Halifax County High School golf team had a respectable opener Monday at the Heritage Invitational at London Downs.

Three Halifax County High School track athletes are headed to the Group AAA state meet. They include Tanisha Evans, who is qualified in the long jump, the triple jump, the 200 meters and the 300 meter hurdles.

Season ends for tennis duo

A remarkable run for two Comet girls’ tennis standouts has ended in the Northwest region quarterfinals. The duo of Blair Jeffress and Jessica Palmer fell in regional action Tuesday at the University of Virginia courts in Charlottesville to Albemarle’s top duo, Napolitano and Lesnoff, 6-1, 6-0.

Host of Comets streaking to track regionals

The Halifax County High School boys’ and girls’ track teams finished third and fourth, respectively, in last week’s Western Valley District meet, but a host of Comets are headed to the regionals, set for Friday in Charlottesville.
