Volleyball stumbles

The HCHS Varsity volleyball team stumbled a bit, losing in non-district action to Martinsville last Tuesday. The Comets fell to 3-3 overall, after a win over Bluestone.

Comets back in second in WVD golf

Paced by five scores in the 70s, Franklin County’s golf team kept its mark perfect in Western Valley District regular- season competition with its fourth win in four matches. The Eagles posted a 302 at the par 71 Green’s Folly Golf Club in South Boston Wednesday to extend its lead in the district standings with one regular-season match remaining.

Optimism abounds

Steve Mattox is very optimistic about the upcoming Western Valley district season for the HCHS varsity volleyball team. Mattox’s methods are gaining traction. Already, the Lady Comets are 3-2 in match action in the non-district portion of the schedule.

The very positive vibes from HCHS varsity volleyball continued to build Thursday night. The Comet girls downed Bluestone, three games to one, and improved to 3-2 overall on the season.

Cross country working hard

The Halifax County high school cross country team competed against Tunstall, and GW Danville high schools on Wednesday at Ballou park in Danville. The HCHS boys’ team won the overall meet led by Zack Evans, who placed fourth, and Evin Morrison, who was fifth.

Golf team improves

The HCHS varsity and jayvee golf programs got in some extra work last week, as Comet coach David Graham continues to seek overall improvement in the program. The Comet varsity had a match Tuesday at Greens Folly, with three schools participating.

Lady Comets fall to Rockets

The HCHS varsity volleyball team dropped to 2-2 Tuesday night after losing to a tough Person County team for the second time this season. The Comets lost, three games to none. But the Comets gained a measure of respect by playing competitively.
