GW ends girls soccer season

GW-Danville won a 4-3 shootout after a lengthy match and advanced in the Western Valley district girls’ varsity soccer tournament, eliminating HCHS Monday night. The Comets’ season ended at 9-8 overall.

E.C. Glass, bolstered by clear sailing in the pole vault, downed the HCHS girls’ outdoor track team to claim the Western Valley district meet crown Friday. The Hilltoppers, who are leaving the WVD after this spring, collected 163.33 points to win the title. Glass got valuable points in the pole vault, as the Comets do not compete in that event. But the Comets, who may be positioned to become the new powerhouse in district girls’ track next season and beyond, finished second with 136.33 points, well ahead of the rest of the WVD.

Comets last in WVD meet

The HCHS boys’ outdoor track team placed last in the Western Valley district meet in Lynchburg Friday. HCHS collected 17 points. Glass won the district title in a runaway, collecting 185 points. Fleming and PH tied for second with 85 points.

Comets get first district soccer win in more than a decade

The HCHS varsity boys soccer team had reason to celebrate on Monday night, following a 2-1 win over Franklin County. HCHS won its first district match in more than ten years, according to HCHS coach Frank Shealy.

Lady Comets get Senior Night win

HCHS downed GW-Danville, 5-2, in girls’ varsity soccer action Tuesday, putting the Comets in a tie with its archrivals for fourth place in the district. HCHS (9-6, 3-6) has one game remaining in the WVD regular season. The Comets traveled to Franklin County yesterday. GW travels to PH Friday.

Girls soccer to participate in Relay for Life

The HCHS girls soccer team would like to thank Charles Anderson Lawn Care for making a $150 donation to help sponsor their team "Soccer Chicks Kick Cancer" in the Relay for Life. The girls have taken this challenge to help find a cure because cancer has hit our soccer family on more than one occasion. To date the girls have raised over $1500 for cancer research. Boys tennis close out successful season

The HCHS boys’ tennis team closed out one of its best seasons in recent years over the weekend. The Comets’ Chris Moore reached the Western Valley district semifinals, before losing to Matt Fink of PH. The doubles team of Chris Moore and Pat Barnes won its quarterfinals match before losing in the doubles semifinals to George Gianakos and Derrick Gale of Glass.
