Boys tennis close out successful season

The HCHS boys’ tennis team closed out one of its best seasons in recent years over the weekend. The Comets’ Chris Moore reached the Western Valley district semifinals, before losing to Matt Fink of PH. The doubles team of Chris Moore and Pat Barnes won its quarterfinals match before losing in the doubles semifinals to George Gianakos and Derrick Gale of Glass.

Comets absorb tough loss

The HCHS boys’ soccer team absorbed a tough loss to PH-Roanoke Thursday night. HCHS lost 10-0 at home, “probably one of the worst losses we’ve had since I’ve been coaching,” said Comet head coach Frank Shealy. “It was a total breakdown on our part.

Lady Comets enjoy encouraging moments in loss to Patrick Henry

The HCHS girls’ varsity soccer team enjoyed some encouraging moments Thursday night, but it was not enough in a district loss to Patrick Henry. PH emerged with a 6-0 victory. Still, HCHS had some positives.

Girls track scores impressive win over GW, Martinsville

The HCHS girls’ track team scored an impressive victory over GW-Danville and Martinsville in a tri-meet. The Comet girls collected 82 points, comfortably ahead of Martinsville (33) and GW (29).

Halifax girls noteworthy at recent track meet

The HCHS girls’ track team competed in the Friends of Coal Gazette Relays on May 1 and 2. The team placed third out of 22 teams. Tanisha Evans received the award for the “Female High Point Scorer” in the meet. Halifax had several noteworthy efforts, as six Comets placed in the meet.

The HCHS varsity girls’ soccer team lost to E.C. Glass, 9-1, in Western Valley district action Friday night. The Comets showed commendable hustle, but there’s still a significant overall gap between these programs.

Jayvees fall 3-0 to Glass

The jayvee Comet girls’ soccer team lost to E.C. Glass, 3-0, in WVD action Friday night. HCHS had several good penetrations in the second half, sparked by excellent hustle from Courtney Young, but could not overtake the Hilltoppers in the second half.
