Girls fall to PH in tennis

The Halifax Comet Girls’ tennis team fell to Patrick Henry on Thursday night by a score of 1-8. The Comets struggled against the more experienced patriot’s team but looked good in a number of matches especially doubles which were closely contested. Brandi Winstead was the sole comet to post a win in a close match against Patrick Henry’s Kim Russell.

Comet boys down Tunstall

The HCHS boys’ varsity soccer team has a new burst of confidence following a 3-0 win over Tunstall Friday night. Just over a week ago, Tunstall downed the Comets, 4-0, but this was a different Comet team.

The HCHS’ girls varsity soccer team rebounded from a tough loss to Franklin County with back-to-back non-district wins. The Comets downed Tunstall, 2-0, in non-district action Friday. Halifax scored both goals in the first half and held off Tunstall, whose only losses this season have come to the Comets. HCHS improved to 7-2 overall, with a 1-2 Western Valley district mark.

Lady Comets fall to Eagles in soccer 3-0

The HCMS girls soccer team fell to 5-2 overall and 1-2 in the district following a 3-0 loss to the Franklin County girls’ varsity Tuesday night at home. HCHS had about 12-15 shots on goal, but could not convert. HCHS trailed 1-0 at the half, after the Eagles did not score until about three minutes remained in the first half.

McCulloch scores three in win over Comets

Franklin County’s Kyle McCulloch scored three goals – two in the first half and one in the second – Tuesday night to lead Franklin County’ to a 3-0 shutout win over Halifax County in Western Valley District boys’ varsity soccer action. McCullough, a senior midfielder, broke a scoreless tie by scoring the Eagles’ initial goal in the 20 minute of the match. Six minutes later, he netted his second goal to give FCHS a 2-0 edge. McCulloch completed his hat trick in the 68th minute when he scored off an Eagles’ corner kick.

Lady Comets fourth in Heritage Invitational tennis tournament

The Halifax Comets girl’s tennis team traveled to Lynchburg on April 3 and 4 to participate in the Heritage Invitational tournament. The Comets placed fourth place in the tournament with their young team. Highlights of the weekend for the Comets were Carlene Link who won finished first in the number three position and Jessica Palmer who finished second at the number one spot.
