Raring-to-go children jump to a start at last year’s South Boston Elementary School’s annual 1-mile Kids’ Fun Run and 5K Race. This year, the run takes place Saturday morning, April 30. Proceeds will go toward pedometers for P.E. classes and high-tech smartboards. Cost for the 5K is $15 ($20 on race day); the Fun Run is $5 (ages 12 and under only) and entrants get a medal and a keepsake, student-designed t-shirt. Sponsors are Lindstrand USA, Edward Jones, American National Bank, Powell Funeral Home, Dr. James Witko, Law Office of Tracy L. Quackenbush, Dr. Michael Haskett, Dr. Michael Peer, State Farm Insurance (Dave White), South Boston Insurance, the Law Office of Robert Morrison, Friends of James Edmunds and Dr. Keith Pyle. Lady Comets continue early success with 14-2 rout of Tunstall

The Halifax County High School varsity softball team continued its early season unbeaten run with a 14-2 rout of Tunstall Friday night on the road.

Late rally propels Comet baseball past N. Durham

Northern Durham played competitively against the Halifax County High School varsity baseball team Wednesday, until the Comets broke the game open in the late innings on the way to a 9-3 win.
