The Halifax County High School softball team is headed to the Group AAA state tournament for the second time in coach Melanie Saunders' tenure.

Aron Puryear lifted HCHS baseball to a state tournament berth last night when he was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the seventh inning, forcing in the winning run. The Comets edged Osbourn Park, 8-7, here to keep their season alive.
