Person County downed the Halifax County varsity boys in the finals of the Holiday Classic Wednesday night, 75-64.

The Halifax County High School Lady Comets successfully defended their Holiday Classic title, downing Person County Wednesday night in the girls side of the Holiday Classic title game. HCHS shook off a lethargic first half and held off Pamlico County, N.C., in the tourney opener Tuesday, 69-61. The Comets held the visitors in check in the final period and also did enough to counteract Pamlico’s Shane Whitfield, who scored 33 points, including 15 in the final period alone.

The inside-outside combination for the Halifax County varsity girls’ basketball team clicked repeatedly Tuesday and the unbeaten Comets rolled into last night’s Holiday Classic championship.
