Jayvee boys blend experience, newcomers in soccer

Jason Bomar has some experience returning this spring for the Halifax County High School boys’ jayvee soccer team, but he’ll also have to do some effective coaching, too, since the team is inexperienced.

Lady Comets score district tennis win

The Halifax County High School girls tennis team scored a win over district opponent William Fleming on Monday with a perfect 9-0 score. Jessica Palmer led the team at the number one position with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout. Monica Puckett playing at number six also scored a shutout. No Comets lost more than three games as they won all six singles and three doubles in straight sets.

Girls post respectable second in track meet, boys place third

The Halifax County High School girls’ and boys’ track teams posted very respectable finishes at the recent Bulldog relays in Lynchburg.

Halifax County Middle School swept archrival GW-Danville in a track meet held Tuesday.

HCMS karting program gearing up

The Halifax County Middle School Karting Program is gearing up for a new season at South Boston Speedway. Thanks to the generous support of the Mattioli Foundation, South Boston Speedway, and community volunteers, HCMS is able to offer interested middle school students the unique opportunity to participate in this extra-curricular activity. The 30 karts, track, safety equipment, storage facilities, oil, gas, and kart replacement parts are all donated to the school system by Doc Mattioli and the Mattioli Foundation.
