Jayvees rout JF

The HCHS JV softball team maintained its momentum with a 13-1 rout of Jefferson Forest Monday. The Comets scored two runs in the first inning, six more in a torrid third inning, and four in the fifth.

Comets fall to PH in tennis

Patrick Henry-Roanoke held serve at home in a key boys’ tennis district match win over Halifax County Monday. The Pats won, 8-1.

Girls tennis finish season with loss

The Halifax County High School Girls’ Tennis team closed out its home season on Monday evening with a disappointing loss to Patrick Henry of Roanoke. The Comets played some of their best matches of the season but fell to the Patriots 1-8. The home team played closely contested matches at the number one position with Jessica Palmer and at number three with Carlene Link. The high point of the evening for the home team was a win at number six by Monika Puckett who went to a third set tie-breaker for the win.

Comets fall to GW in soccer April 24

The HC boys’ varsity soccer team fell to GW-Danville, 3-1, in district action last Friday night.

Halifax County rebounded from a tough loss at Tunstall, getting excellent pitching from Tyler Lewis in a 3-1 win over archrival GW-Danville Friday night. HCHS improved to 10-1 overall and 5-0 in the district. GW is 10-4 overall and 2-3 in the WVD.

Lady Comets rout GW

Stephanie Clark pitched very well, and the HCHS varsity softball team provided plenty of support, leading the Comets to a 11-0 rout of GW-Danville Friday. The Comets improved to 8-3 overall and 4-1 in the Western Valley district. Halifax finished with 14 hits. Paige Rickman homered and singled and Joanna Spencer collected three hits.

Comets second in tourney

The HCHS boys’ tennis team finished second in the Heritage Invitational, losing in closely contested action in Lynchburg to GW-Danville. GW finished with 22 points, while Halifax was second with 18. Heritage was third with 13 and Amherst was fourth with two.

Jayvees roll

The HCHS jayvee softball team rolled to wins over Person County and GW-Danville on successive afternoons last week. The Comets downed Person, 11-2, on Thursday and then routed the Eagles, 19-1, on Friday.

Lady Comets fall to Glass in tennis

The Halifax County High School girls tennis team dropped a match on Thursday to visiting E.C. Glass by a 9-0 score. The Comets played well against one of the state’s most honored teams and held a number of matches to close scores. Jessica Palmer playing in the number one spot extended a much more experienced Sheila Klouck to a 4-6, 3-6 loss. Palmer was able to lead several times in a match that lasted over one and one half hours.
