Lady Comets knocked out of NWR tournament

For the second year in a row, the HCHS softball program saw its season with a lopsided loss in the Northwest Region semifinals. Battlefield continued its march through the Northwest Regionals, using timely offense and solid fundamentals to end Halifax County’s baseball season, 6-3, Wednesday at the Comet field. HCHS’ most consistent pitcher, Tyler Lewis, was hampered at times by shaky defense, but Battlefield (15-10) also did a good job of capitalizing on its scoring opportunities. The Bobcats seized decisive momentum in the fifth inning, when they scored four times to extend their lead to 6-2.

Long comes through for Comets in Monday’s NWR game

It’s no secret Kyle Long, who is headed to Longwood University next season, has not exactly been a shut down guy on the mound this season for HCHS varsity baseball this season. But Long got it done Monday, with significant stakes on the line. Long made only one serious mistake – a chest-high changeup to Albemarle’s Tyler Molinaro – resulting in a three-run homer. Between that miscue and the seventh inning, when the runner assigned to Long scored to make it a 7-4 Comet final, Long kept AHS off-balance and got key outs when he needed them most.

Evans qualifies for four events at state meet

Tanisha Evans
Tanisha Evans has enjoyed an outstanding spring for the HCHS girls track team, qualifying for this weekend’s state AAA meet in four events. And Evans hopes to qualify for a national meet coming in June. Evans has qualified for the state in the 300 hurdles, the 200 meters, 100 meters and the triple jump. The 300 hurdles is her best event, and she hopes to place in the state in that event. Evans has run 45.08 seconds in the 300.
