Michael forces delay of game penalty

Friday’s scheduled game against Franklin County was postponed until tonight after the remnants of Hurricane Michael blew through the area Thursday night. A final decision on when the game will be played will be made this morning, according to HCHS athletics director Allen Lawter. With the Franklin County game, the Comets begin a three-game home stretch, with Patrick County scheduled Friday for Homecoming and Magna Vista on Oct. 26. The regular season ends Nov. 2, with GW-Danville.

DANVILLE, Va. – 1-6 football teams rarely play this courageously. The slumping Halifax County varsity Comets gave favored GW all they wanted Friday, and then some, falling short inside the final two minutes in a bitter 35-34 loss to their longtime rivals.

Pair of Eagles top WVD standings

The 2009 Western Valley district football race is under way, and GW-Danville and Franklin County have the early edge, with both teams 1-0. GW-Danville has a home date with Halifax County, which is 0-0 in the WVD after a 1-5 start to the season tomorrow night, at 7:30, in the River City.

Spikers get win over Randolph Henry

The HCHS volleyball team improved to 10-6 overall with a non-district win over Randolph-Henry Tuesday. The Comet spikers are 2-2 in the district, and return to WVD action Thursday at Franklin County.

Freshmen take out Rockets 12-6

The HCHS freshmen football team downed Person County Monday night, 12-6. The Comets scored twice in the first half, and the Blues’ defense made it stand up after intermission.

A learning experience

The HCHS varsity volleyball team continued its district success Thursday, downing archrival GW-Danville, three games to one.

The ninth grade football Comets lost a tough decision to a talented Liberty Christian Academy team Thursday night, 14-6. The Comet ninth graders are 3-2 this season.
