The members of the 1984 State champion Comet varsity baseball team got together Friday night for the 25th anniversary reunion at the Comet baseball field. Mix a superb early complete-game pitching performance by Kyle Long, opportunistic hitting from the offense, and sparkling defense, and you have a 2-0 start for the HCHS varsity baseball team. The Comets downed visiting Loyal sock (Pa.), the defending state champion in its classification, 5-1 on an historic night at the Blues’ field.

Jayvees fall 7-0 to Loyalsock

The HCHS jayvee baseball team dropped a 7-0 decision to Loyalsock (Pa.) Friday night. The Lancers got four runs in the third inning, bolstered by two hits and to Comet errors. Loyalsock added three in the seventh, on three hits and a Comet error.

Comet softball team earns split against Albemarle, Battlefield

The HCHS varsity softball team earned a split Saturday, playing very respectable competition against Albemarle and a Northern Virginia power, Battlefield. The Comets (2-1) sailed by Albemarle, 14-2, and then lost to Battlefield, 8-0. But the Comets went toe-to-toe against the talented Battlefield squad for four innings before Battlefield broke it open with a six-run, four-hit fifth inning.

Comet boys tennis team gets off to fast start with victories over GW, Martinsville

The HCHS boys’ tennis team is off to a terrific start this spring. The Comets improved to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the Western Valley district with a narrow 5-4 win over GW-Danville.

Comet boys tennis down Prince Edward

The HCHS boys’ varsity tennis team downed Prince Edward, 6-3, in non-district action Tuesday.

Girls tennis shows improvement

On Tuesday the Comets girls’ Tennis Team hosted Prince Edward and came away with a 7-2 win. The young Halifax County High players showed much improvement over their opening outing at Randolph Henry.

Girls tennis opens with new faces, competition for spots

The 2009 edition of the Halifax High School Girls Tennis Team starts off the season with many new faces and a great deal of competition for playing positions. After two very successful years where the team was able to advance both singles and doubles players to the Northwest Regional Championships, the Comets are facing a rebuilding year with the loss of their top five players from last year.
