The HCHS varsity baseball team improved to 2-0 in the Western Valley district, and 6-0 overall, after a workmanlike 6-4 win over E.C. Glass Thursday. Halifax is out to one of the best starts ever in the Kelvin Davis era, although a significant indication of just how good these Comets are arrives on the schedule this Thursday. HCHS hosts Franklin County, expected to be a contender for the district regular season crown, at the Comet field.

Girls track place second

The HCHS varsity girls’ outdoor track team took second place Saturday in the prestigious Vince Bradford Relays in the Hill City. E.C. Glass won the girls’ event Saturday with 82 points, while the Comets were second with 57 points. 17 girls’ teams competed in the Hill City.

Lady Comets fall to Glass in soccer

The HCHS’ varsity girls soccer team fell to E.C. Glass, 9-0, in district action Friday night. The Comet girls dropped to 5-1 overall and 1-1 in the Western Valley district.

Comets win district opener

The HCHS varsity baseball team had a laugher over William Fleming Tuesday. The Comets rolled in their district opener, 18-0, as Tyler Lewis got the win with four innings of work. Lewis fanned eight, walked five and did not allow a hit.

Comet soccer 1-4 after 8-0 loss to Fleming

The HCHS boys’ soccer team is 1-4 overall after an 8-0 loss to William Fleming in Roanoke.

Lady Comets have extended practice in 15-0 win over Fleming

Extended practice, especially with bunting techniques, and more opportunity to see an opponent’s pitcher. That’s what the Halifax County varsity softball team gained from its slaughter rule 15-0 win over William Fleming Tuesday at home.

Girls tennis swing past Fleming

The Halifax County High School girl’s tennis team improved their record to 5-0 on Tuesday with a 5-4 win over district foe William Fleming. The Comets struggled through several matches but were able to hang on for wins when it counted most. Number one player Jessica Palmer led the Comets attack with a straight set win over Sidney Sparrow of The colonels by a 7-6 (7-5),6-3 score. A strong performance was also turned in by Blair Jeffress at the number two position who coasted to a 6-2,6-1 win.

Baseball boosters meet Monday

The Halifax County High School Baseball Booster Club will meet Monday, April 6 at 7 p.m. at Halifax County High School. The meeting will be held in a physical education classroom near the locker rooms. Persons attending the meeting are asked to enter the building through the auxiliary gym door.
