Five people have been arrested on indictments issued Monday in connection with an alleged embezzlement scheme at Lawrence Distributing Company. Among those indicted is William Gregory, a member of South Hill Town Council representing Ward I.
Washington, DC — Congressman Tom Perriello announced today that nearly $8.8 million will be made available to weatherize more than 1,100 homes in the 5th District, thanks to federal funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The grant awards include $671,820 for the Tri-County Community Action Agency in South Boston to weatherize 86 homes.

Kenneth Wesley Murray, 62, was convicted yesterday of second degree murder in the death of his 57 year old sister, Carol Murray Wolfe on March 31, 2008. Murray faced a charge of first degree murder during a day-long trial which began at 9 a.m. yesterday morning. The jury announced its verdict shortly before 9 p.m. last night after deliberating for some two hours.
Some fifteen minutes later, the jury came back with a recommended sentence of 30 years in prison for Murray.
Three suspects were arrested Tuesday on crack cocaine and marijuana trafficking charges following the search of a Gygax Avenue residence in South Boston by members of the Halifax/South Boston Regional Narcotics and Gang Task Force.
Members of the Task Force, along with South Boston police, the South Boston Police Department Tactical Unit, and the Halifax County Sheriffs Office executed a search warrant at a residence located at 1725 Gygax Avenue. The search turned up an undisclosed amount of suspected powder cocaine, suspected marijuana, suspected crack cocaine, a firearm and money. Police also seized a vehicle at the residence.
Members of the governing bodies of the County and the Towns of South Boston and Halifax on Monday evening discussed at length several issues during their joint session held in the second floor meeting room of the Mary Bethune Complex.
