Twenty-nine hourly employees at ABB received layoff notices on Thursday and Friday of this week, according to South Boston ABB Plant Manager Tom Minnich.

Halifax County High School’s Drama Department will present a performance of the school’s competition play, “John Lennon & Me,” on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. at The Prizery. The play, by Cherie Bennett, involves the lives of teenagers in a hospice. The production provides moments of humor as well as drama as the characters try to live their lives as fully as possible even though confronted by life-threatening illnesses.
The Halifax County High School wrestling team lost three matches Wednesday to Bassett, Patrick Henry and Patrick County high schools in a quad meet held at Bassett.
Rebecca Reagan dropped out of high school in eleventh grade because she did not feel she was being challenged enough. She stayed out of school for awhile before being encouraged by her boyfriend, David Hill Jr., to attend the Southside Virginia Community College Middle College Program at the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center in South Boston where he is also enrolled as a student. With both of them attending the classes together they have found it helpful because they have assisted each other in preparing for the various GED tests.
