Halifax County deputy charged in crash

Halifax County Deputy Sheriff W. Gray Nunn has been charged with reckless driving, failure to maintain control of the vehicle he was operating, according to Halifax County Sheriff Stanley Noblin. The citation follows a single vehicle accident which occurred earlier this month.

Suspect sought in Wendy’s robbery

South Boston Police are looking for the black male who robbed a manager of the local Wendy’s restaurant located on Old Halifax Road Monday morning.

Turbeville becomes first LEED green associate in Halifax County

Thomas Turbeville recently earned the LEED Green Associate credential. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, and is an internationally recognized green building certification system. The LEED Green Associate credential denotes knowledge of green design, construction and operations. According to the Green Building Certification Institute’s Professional Directory, Turbeville is currently the only certified Green Associate in Halifax, Charlotte, Mecklenburg, and Pittsylvania Counties.

Halifax County resident donates educational materials to Longwood

A retired university educator who lives in Halifax County has donated his collection of dissertations and textbooks to Longwood University’s College of Education and Human Services.

Chicken pox outbreak at CSES monitored

Health officials are monitoring an outbreak of chicken pox at Cluster Springs Elementary School, according to Dr. Charles Devine, director of the Halifax County Department of Health. Since Sept. 1, eight cases of the disease have been confirmed among students and adults who attend or work at the school.
