Landfill partners ordered to pay $150,000 judgment to contractor

Shearin Construction, the Drakes Branch company that sued Halifax, Mecklenburg and Charlotte counties after it was dropped as contractor for the Butcher’s Creek regional landfill near Boydton, today won a judgment of $119,334.28, plus interest dating from April 25, 2007 at the conclusion of a three-day civil trial in Boydton.

Halifax County supervisors approve use permits, ordinance changes

Halifax County Supervisors on Monday night approved three conditional use permits which will allow for the operation of three new businesses in Halifax County. The supervisors also approved three ordinance amendments to the County Code. All votes were unanimous, 7-0, with Board Chairman Tom West absent from the meeting.
