64-year-old motorist airlifted after mishap

A 64 year old driver, Linda Martin, was airlifted to Duke Medical Center on Saturday evening after she was injured in a two-vehicle crash on State Route 704, Old Cluster Springs Road.

The crash took place just after 6 p.m. when Martin attempted to pass another vehicle on a double lined section of the highway. According to police, her vehicle wrecked as she swerved to miss an oncoming vehicle.

Her Ford F150 struck the rear of the northbound vehicle, a van operated by 51 year old Mark Bailey. The collision caused Martin to lose control of her vehicle as it struck a telephone pole.

Virginia State Trooper G. K. Brandes is investigating the crash. He reported that damages to the rear of Bailey’s van were minor, but estimates that Martin’s F150 truck is a total loss.
