Benchmark grabs 76-60 overtime win in Industrial League


The South Boston Parks and Recreation Business and Industrial/30 and over basketball held its final games before the Thanksgiving holiday with Benchmark claiming the 76-60 overtime win over Polywood II.

Benchmarks’ Ty Barksdale drilled the trey with 1.3 second left in regulation to send the game to overtime.

Following a break for Thanksgiving, league play will resume on Dec. 4 with ADUSA Distribution LLC vs. Polywood II tipping off at 2 p.m.

Winners in addition to Benchmark included, AISIN NC, The Onez, Polywood I, and Youth Coaches.

AISIN NC 53, Bo Time/Bojangles 47

AISN edged out Bojangles 29-22 in the first half of play going onto the six-point win. Bojangles won the second half 25-24.

Tevin Edmunds paced AISIN with 30 points; teammate Donte Boyd added 14 points. Bonjangle’s leading scorer was Tyriq Glenn with 24 points, Dante White posted nine.

Both teams are 4-2 entering the holiday break.

The Onez 113, Presto 26

The Onez (6-0) continued their dominating league play waxing Presto 112-26. Presto fell to 1-6 on the season with the loss.

The Oneze scored 76 second half points to claim the lopsided victory. Deshon Dabbs 36 points, Demetrius Burrell with 25 and Jonathan Smalls chipping in 20 points led The Onez made 24 three-pointers.

Dequan Hutcherson and Tyler Bostick had 14 and 12 points in that order for Presto.

Polywood I improved to 3-3 while ADUSA dropped to 3-4 as the latter forfeited their Sunday game.

Benchmark 76, Polywood II 60

Benchmark took the 29-21 lead to halftime, Polywood II came storming back in the second half to have the 55-53 lead, but with under two seconds left in regulation Ty Barksdale hit the basket for Benchmark sending the game to overtime.

Benchmark outscored Polywood 21-5 in the extra period of play to take the 16-point victory. Benchmark improved to 5-2; Polywood fell to 2-4.

Barksdale’s 30 points led Benchmark; teammate Calvin Chaney added 29. For Polywood Lymon Gregory had 21 points, Miles Mitchell 11, and Jeremiah Martin 10 points.

Youth Coaches 65, Hitachi 62

The Youth Coaches beat Hitachi 65-62 as Hitachi dropped to 5-1 in the highly contested game.

Hitachi had the 33-31 lead going into the half but were unable to grind out the win. The coaches outpaced Hitachi 39-24 in the second half.

David Medley knocking down 23 points led Hiatchi’s scoring. James Burden added 11 and Christian East 10 points.

Ethan Terry led the coaches with 21 points, Ta’Shawn Medley had 12, and Travon Martin 10 points.
