Bluestone posts 3-0 softball road win over Prince Edward

The Bluestone varsity softball team got their first win of the season Thursday in Farmville, besting Prince Edward 3-0.

Katlyn Shanklin had seven strikeouts, allowing only two hits in seven innings of play. Bluestone scattered their hits throughout the game but secured solid at-bats when it mattered.

Devin Gregory got the first hit of the game for Bluestone in the top of the second inning. Sydney Newcomb started off the third inning with a walk, later scoring on Emma Newcomb’s double.

E. Newcomb later scored off a Hannah Mull’s RBI. Trista Newcomb hit a double in the top of the fourth, but she was stranded on base. Chasitee Baskerville got hot in the top of the sixth with a standup double. She later scored on Gregory’s second hit of the game.

“It was a good first win and we look forward to building as a team from the success in this game,” coach Shelby Brown said.

Bluestone was scheduled to play Amelia yesterday and will travel to Victoria today to take on Central Lunenburg.

Bluestone’sTuesday night season opener against Randolph-Henry reached the bottom of the third inning before the game was postponed due to darkness. The game will be finished when the Lady Barons visit Randolph-Henry on April 26.
