Cecil Stover Reaves


Cecil Stover Reaves of Huell Matthews Highway, South Boston passed away on Friday, July 25, 2014 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born in Halifax County on April 11, 1938 and was 78 years old. He was the son of the late Beverly Averette Reaves and Sally Lewis Ford Reaves and was married to Janey Wilson Reaves who survives. He was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church where he was a long time member of the administrative board. He was also a retired technician with Sprint phone company.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Lydia R. Trickey and husband Mark and Lynn R. Taylor and husband Mike, all of South Boston, two sisters, Gladys R. Pool and husband John of Cluster Springs and Nancy “Judy” Yates and husband Albert of Bedford, four brothers, Harry “Barksdale” Reaves and wife Helen of Huddleston, Bill Reaves and wife Jean and Lewis Reaves and wife Ann, all of South Boston and Fred Reaves of Virgilina, three grandchildren, Liz T. Smith and husband Justin of Scottsburg, Jillian Trickey and fiancé Chris Hidy and Ryan Michael Taylor, all of South Boston.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Averett Reaves.

A funeral will be held Monday, July 28 at 2 p.m. at Shady Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Charles Townsend and Rev. Jack Stewart conducting the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family received friends at Powell Funeral Home on Sunday evening from 7–8:30 p.m. and at other times at the home of Lydia and Mark Trickey, 5087 Huell Matthews Highway, South Boston.
