Comets strong with sixth place finish


The Halifax County High School boys track team had a strong outing at Saturday’s Amherst Invitational at Amherst High School.

The Comets finished sixth overall, with 32 points. Fluvanna won the meet with 79 points. There were 25 teams in the meet.

The Comet boys’ 4×100 meter relay squad won the meet title with a blazing effort of 43.23 seconds. The relay members included Roland Brandon, Kahlil Jones, Jamal Crews and Deon Lassiter.

Shalar Charlton finished second in the shot put with a throw of 46.08. Crews placed third in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 43.46. Jones was fourth in the high jump with an effort of 5-10. Lassiter was sixth in the long jump with an effort of 20-05.
