Duane Westbrook Royal


Duane Westbrook Royal, husband of Barbara Carter Royal, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2018 at the age of 86. He was born on Nov. 18, 1932 in Brunswick County to the late William Irving and Mary Helen Ingram Royal. Duane served in the United States Army with active duty during the Korean Conflict.

He was employed for 38 years with VDOT, South Hill Residency, as an assistant resident engineer. Duane was a faithful member of Liberty Baptist Church, having served as a deacon and a Sunday school teacher.


In addition to his wife, Barbara, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Russ Talbott; granddaughter Lauren T. Hill and her husband, Jon, of Richmond; grandson Kevin J. Talbott and his wife, Mary, of Clarksville and great grandchildren, Mary Addison Hill, Landon Hill, Emma Hill, Jade Talbott and Kye Talbott. Duane is also survived by his sister, Mildred Tuck of Freeman.


A funeral will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 28, at 11 a.m. at Liberty Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. Gary Long will officiate.

The family received friends Tuesday, Nov. 27 from 6-8 p.m. at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home.
