EASY SUMMER LISTENING

Journey tribute band Trial By Fire performs at the Colonial Center Saturday night.

The Nu-Blu band performs at the Bluegrass in Boydton festival Saturday at the county seat.

Saturday in Mecklenburg County offered music to appeal to a variety of tastes. There was bluegrass in Boydton, classic rock and oldies at MacCallum More Museum and Gardens in Chase City, and a tribute to superstar rock band Journey in South Hill.

This was the second year for Boydton’s salute to bluegrass music. The Bluegrass in Boydton concert featured music from four well-known bluegrass bands, along with local artisans and food prepared by the members of the Chase City Volunteer Fire Department.

Performers included Nu-Blu, Josh Grigsby and County Line, Shannon Baker & Sometime Soon, and Starlett & Big Jon.

Saturday evening in Chase City, three high school friends from South Hill who perform under the moniker Highway 903 Band entertained picnickers at MacCallum More Museum and Gardens with their mix of rock and rhythm & blues music.

Also that night, the Colonial Center for the Performing Arts hosted Journey tribute band Trial by Fire. The Charlotte, N.C. group has performed several times in South Hill. Their stated goal is to bring the music of a 1996 tour that never was to Journey fans across the country.

The tour was to promote Journey’s 10th album, Trial by Fire. It was canceled after lead singer Steve Perry was injured while preparing for the tour.
