Franklin County tops jayvee girls 41-29


Consistent quarter scoring by Franklin County Friday enabled the Eagles to overcome Halifax County 41-29 in a Piedmont District girls junior varsity basketball victory over the the Comets at Samuel M. Hawkins-Central Gymasium.

FCHS’s victory is its second this season over Halifax.

The Eagles (3-1 in the Piedmont District) led by three points, 11-8, after the first quarter and by 10, 22-12, at intermission courtesy of a 11-4 second stanza surge.

A 10-7 third-period spurt by FCHS made the count 32-19.

The Comets won the final frame 10-9.

Halifax made 10 field goals and was 9 of 19 from the free-throw line.

A’nya Brandon led the Comets with nine points and Kayla Townes tallied seven.

Also scoring were Mary Morrison with six points, Lauryn Easley with five and Mandy Lewis with two.

FCHS converted 16 field goals, two of which were 3-pointers, and was 7 of 16 from the free-throw line.

Mya Blizzard paced the Eagles with game-best 11 points.

Also scoring were Janajha Mattox and Courtney Bryant each with eight points, Riley Turner with five, Jocelyn Shufelt with four, Kameron Copeland with three and Keely Barkovich with two.

Blizzard and Turner each swished a 3-pointer.
