Halifax County Historical Society kicks off membership drive


The Halifax County Historical Society is kicking off its annual membership drive for 2010-11 and invites you to become a member.

The Society’s mission is to bring together those people interested in preserving historical facts, artifacts, and structures of Halifax County, Virginia.

You are encouraged to join and support the efforts of the Society in serving the community. Consider a membership for a family member or a friend.

The membership makes a great gift. Each member receives three BULLETIN publications each year. This coming year there will be membership discounts for certain publications.

Past Accomplishments

To complete research for the publication of an architectural history of the county.

Mission of the Society

The Society

n proposes to acquire significant, historical information and disseminate it to the public.

n intends to collect primary materials representing all periods of Halifax County’s history.

n proposes to ensure for the preservation of materials collected.

n will provide guidance to ensure preservation of records, archives, and structures.

n exists to interpret, collect, and make available evidence of the past, and to provide leadership on furthering knowledge and appreciation of the history of Halifax County, Virginia.

Membership includes

n the Bulletin, a publication of historical articles and information on Halifax County, Virginia.

n lectures and activities relating to history and preservation.

n annual meeting of membership.

n discounts on certain publications.

Membership is September through August and a form may be found next to this article. Fees are: $15 for single; $25 for couple; $30 for corporate, and life membership is $250. Make checks payable to Halifax County historical Society, P. O. Box 601, South Boston VA 24592.
