Harry James Glass


Harry James Glass of Halifax died Sept. 27, 2016. Born in Halifax County on July 14, 1939, he was 77 years old. He was the son of the late Harry Edgar Glass and the late Nadie Saunders Glass and was married to Daisy Glass who survives. He was a member of Hunting Creek Baptist Church where he served as Assistant Sunday School teacher and was a deacon. He was a member of the Triangle Volunteer Fire Department and was an avid bowler and member of the South Boston Bowling Hall of Fame. He also enjoyed playing slots.

In addition to his wife of the home, he is survived by a son, James Douglas Glass of San Francisco, Calif., two sisters, Irene Layne of Farmville and Josephine Robey of Altavista and a number of nieces and nephews and the love of his life, “Tiny.”

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Edgar Glass and a sister, Shirley Viar.

A funeral will be held Friday, Sept. 30 at 2 p.m. at Hunting Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Sean McGuire officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday, Sept. 29 at Hunting Creek Baptist Church from 7-8:30 p.m. and at his home 3206 Abbott Hill Road, Halifax.
