The Park View Lady Dragons are 3-0 on the young season after winning two Tri-Rivers District games this week by comfortable margins, and taking a third victory after rallying from a 10-point deficit.

On Monday the varsity girls traveled to Windsor and slayed the Lady Dukes 61-16. They returned Wednesday to the comfortable confines of the Park View gym and took care of business against the Sussex Lady Tigers. Park View won that contest 51-24.

The Lady Dragons then faced a key early season test at home Friday night against the visiting Lady Eagles of Greensville County and were forced to come back from 10 points down early to eke out a 61-54 win.

Park View vs. Sussex (Wednesday, Dec. 4)

The Sussex Lady Tigers traveled to South Hill on Wednesday night and proved to be only slightly more challenging for the Lady Dragons than Windsor. PV senior Guard Mikya Harrison led the Dragons with 16 points and went 10 for 12 at the charity stripe.

Tyonne Montague, a force in the paint, scored nine points for the Lady Dragons while Deaona Watkins and Azaria Williams contributed five each. Sophia Jansen, Asia Green and Teonia Watts added four points apiece and Jordyn Jackson and Nyjae Talley each added a 2-pointer to round out the PV scoring.

Park View vs. Greensville County (Friday, Dec. 6)

The Lady Dragons faced their first real challenge of the 2019-20 season Friday night against the visiting Lady Eagles of Greensville County High, a game that drew a packed house at PVHS.

Consensus opinion seems to be that Park View and Greensville County are two of the best teams in the Tri-Rivers District and they both played like it Friday night.

The Lady Eagles won the first half and had a 10-point lead at one point before the Lady Dragons clawed their way back into contention. Park View trailed by just two at the end of the first half. Greensville scored 16 points in the first period and 14 in the second, giving the Eagles a 30-28 lead at halftime.

The Lady Dragons came out guns blazing in the third quarter, however, and quickly took the lead. Deaona Watkins nailed a two pointer in the third to tie the game and then Azaria Williams added more points to take the lead. The PV defense was akin to a swarm of hornets harassing the Eagles on every possession, as the Dragon girls won the third quarter 14-3 to take a 42-31 lead into the final frame.

The Lady Eagles gathered themselves and pulled to with four points midway through the fourth quarter before Park View put on a late push to prevail 61-54. The Lady Dragons took the win despite being outscored in the frame 21-19. Mikya Harrison would prove to be the key in the fourth, going a perfect 8 for 8 at the free throw line.

PV vs GCHS box scores: S. Jansen 5, A. Williams 16, M. Harrison 17, D. Watkins 8, T. Watts 8, T. Montague 7.

With the win over Greensville, the Lady Dragon improved to a perfect 3-0 on the season and will travel to Surry County Monday to face the Lady Cougars (2-0).

The PV girls are on the road again Tuesday for another long trip to Lancaster County to face the Lady Red Devils in a non-conference match-up. After a couple days off, the Lady Dragons are on the road again, this time to Petersburg to face Appomattox Regional Governors School before wrapping up a busy week by hosting the Lady Red Devils of Lancaster for the second matchup in one week. That game will take place at PVHS on Saturday, Dec. 14.
