The Halifax County Middle School volleyball team saw its 11-0 run this season end in the Junior Piedmont District tournament title game Thursday.

The Lions, seeded one in the tournament, fell to no. 2 Laurel Park, 23-25, 18-25 to see its season end.

Halifax had beaten Laurel Park twice in the regular season, but Laurel Park pulled out the win to repeat as tournament champs.

Coach Lynzie Adams said Halifax played a competitive game but just came up short.

“The team left it all on the court, diving for balls left and right and receiving tough serves from their opponent,” Adams said.” I’m proud of our fight, but we struggled with communication and made several passing errors.

“The Lancers had long runs in both sets which made it difficult for us to get on top. We may have lost the championship, but we won the season.”

The Lions once again got solid play from team leaders Ella Seamster, Kennedy Bowen, Allie Payne and Emmerson Salley.

In the 23-25 loss, Seamster had three aces and a kill; Bowen had two aces and two kills; Payne added two kills.

In the second set Seamster, Bowen and Payne delivered an ace apiece. Salley spiked two kills.
