Margaret Rudd Bates


Margaret Rudd Bates of Vernon Hill died Sunday, April 24, 2016 at UNC Medical Center at the age of 66. Born in Halifax County on July 15, 1949 to the late Garland Rudd and Annie Green Rudd, she was married to Earl Bates and was a member of Ellis Creek Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband of the home, she is survived by a daughter, Priscilla Smith of Halifax, a son, Robert Bates and wife Melissa of South Boston, a grandson, Justin Bates, five sisters, Julia Mae Whittaby and husband Ronnie, Thelma Connelley and Hattie McGregor, all of Connecticut, Nannie Rhone and husband Jay and Mattie Sue Kay, all of Pennsylvania, two brothers, Billy Rudd and wife Deborah of Connecticut and William Rudd and wife Lila of Baltimore, Md., and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Luther H. Rudd, Garland “Junior” Rudd and James Rudd and a sister, Mary Estelle Rudd.

A funeral will be held Saturday, April 30 at 2 p.m. at Ellis Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Hubert Pannell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Public viewing for family and friends will be Friday, April 29 from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. with the family receiving from 6-8 p.m. at The Crawford House, Halifax and at all other times at the residence, 2131 Wilson Memorial Trail, Vernon Hill.
